Filipinos marked the 151st year of the birth of our national hero Jose Rizal. Lakbay Dangal led the community in remembering the hero via festivities at Chater Garden in Central.
Perhaps still unknown to many, certain spots in Central bear traces of Rizal’s life and adventures in Hong Kong.
The national hero lived in the Rednaxela Terrace from December 1891 to June 1892. Not far from it is the Victoria Prison which Rizal visited.
Number 7 Remedios Terrace in Arbuthnot Road is the home of Rizal’s friend Jose Maria Basa. Rizal first stayed with Basa before he moved to Rednaxela Terrace.
Rizal’s morning clinic was located at No. 2 Duddel Street while his afternoon clinic was in D’Aguilar Street.
Rizal used the services of HSBC to receive P188 from his brother in the Philippines. Carlos Celdran who provides historical tours in Manila, lauded Lakbay Dangal for organizing the event, particularly the Rizal trail.
Celdran also reenacted the execution of Rizal by guns fired by soldiers as Lakbay Dangal led the community in singing the national anthem Lupang Hinirang.
